There are a lot of really good deals out there now on rifles... I would not be afraid of getting a slightly used custom and then in a few years put another barrel on it... get the AI, shoot regular 243 out of it and you will have AI brass to reload when you get into reloading. If you have $2k to spend, buy a Remington or Winchester that fits what you want, put a quality scope on it and get a reloader... should be do-able for under $2k.
