I've been invited on a 4 day pheasant hunt with some friends at Rooster Roost Ranch in Mitchell, SD, beginning the Friday after Thanksgiving. I am curious about what possibilities there are of getting some strange blood on my newly acquired .280AI while I'm there. Anyone got any suggestions?

Mellette County for muley does, lots of walk-in areas.

Pennington co. for whitetail buck or muley doe, lots of federal grasslands.

Gregory co. might be a good choice for muley doe and is closer, hunt Corps. of Engineers land and walk in areas.

It won't do you much good if you didn't draw tags. There might be some leftover doe tags in different areas. If you are intrested I would contact the SD GF&P asap.

There are a boatload of tags leftover and they have removed the limits on tags so you can buy as many as you like. Each license may have up to three tags.

I think Gregory co. had 180 2 tag doe licenses leftover; Mellette over 100 3 tag licenses, etc,

Thanks for the info CogburnR!! Just bought a left over permit for 2 antlerless in Gregory Co.! Even though the season closes on the 27th and we're arriving on the 25th, I'll gladly pay $80 for an opportunity to put a Berger VLD in 2 slicks!! gun)
