[QUOTE="milanuk, post: 297882, member: 376"] If you are building a target/ live varmint rifle on a single shot action, you have a couple choices in terms of Savage actions. Right bolt left port, right bolt right port, and right bolt dual port. The idea with the left-side port is that you can 'see' into the chamber from position behind the gun. If you are reasonably coordinated it is theoretically possible to load faster since you can operate the bolt with one hand and extract/insert the cartridges with the other. If the ejector works properly, I'm not entirely sure thats a valid argument; people that have seen me boogie through a shot string understand what I mean ;) IMHO, the advantage is somewhat wasted on a factory action as the bolt lift requires enough force that the gun is disturbed in the bags and you'll spend any time gained re-settling the gun. If you like keeping your brass in pristine shape (i.e. not ejected out onto the ground or concrete bench top) it can be very handy to be able to easily reach up into the ejection port (after neutering or removing the ejector spring) and take out the fired case. YMMV. The dual port is more of the same - rounds go in the left, and eject out the right. Personally I feel the ejection port is too big and removes more metal (and rigidity) than strictly necessary from the receiver. I haven't shot one of these actions yet so take it for what its worth. The new BR dual port actions, and the RBRP action used in the Palma rifle both have the newest action screw spacing - which does not fit previous stocks, including some/most aftermarket stocks if you don't specify such. The other actions have not (to my knowledge) been changed over yet. My recommendation: RBLP action, 30" 8 twist barrel from SSS, McGowen, Shilen, etc., stock from McRee or SSS. Wrench it together and go shoot. Get on SSS's list and have Fred true/time your action, and add his Evolution 2 oz. trigger. Rules specify a max gun weight of 10kg, max fore-end width of <76mm (3").
