im getting a 338 lapua savage sometime in January probably second week i hope or third week . its the long range hunter model . sku 19482 . Its a birthday present to my self and ive been doing alot of reading on the lapua . Seems like you dont save any on hand loading but you can create some good loads . though factory ammo is already quality .here what caught my eye though . Rocky mountain bullets . the 300gr and 325 gr . now can the 325 gr be pushed at 2700-2750fps ? if so i ran the ballistics chart it says this round would have 2700 ft lbs of energy at 1000 yards . seems impressive to me with 132" drop . the 300 gr with 2300 ft lbs of energy with 135" drop . bc fro the 300 is .979 bc for 325 is 1.035 . will the savage 1:9 twist stablize the 325 or only 300s ? im about 300' above sea level .Ive been talking to dallasreloads about loading some up down the road . but starting off i plan on using hsm 300 gr match king 3.600" COAL and lapua brass 73$ per box .oh almost forgot can the save since it uses the AI mag use the longer 3.780" lapua loads if the magazine is modified like the the other rifles that use the ai mags or is the 110 to short ?

Congrats on the Savage, I've been shooting the Lapua for many years and currently have 3 rifles chambered for it (TRG-42. Custom Mark V, Savage 110BA) All shoot very well.

I have never tried the 325gr bullets you mention but I do shoot the 300gr SMK. I don't see a problem with the Savage in stabilizing the 325gr bullets it should have the 1-9 twist barrel. As far as reloading for the 338 I think it is a must or you must have deep pockets otherwise.

I can reload these for about $1.00 per round using Lapua brass and getting 10 firings from the brass. If you don't reload I would suggest getting started. The cheapest I have seen loaded ammo is the PPU 250gr for $52.00 per box and I've heard its junk.

Enjoy the new toy!

Yes I plan on shooting hsm with lapua brass. I know the 300 win mag will keep up out to 1000-1500yards but I want to play with this monster caliber. I want to try the ttsx 265 gr but don't think it could be loaded to 3.600" or even stabilize. Also I plan on using a swfa ss 20x42 and maybe barrett zero gap high rings
