On a whim I picked up a ruger american in 308 the other day. I'm impressed. For the money, it is a great starter rifle for someone with limited funds. Out of the box I shot a 3/4 inch group with factory remington 100 gr. coreloks. Magazine seems a little cheap but it works well and the gun shoots like a house afire. Has a nice trigger and handles really well. I'll have to try this one on a whitetail this fall.
