Remington VTR triangle barrel in 308

What is your opinion and the +and - of this type of rifle for accuracy and medium range shooting(-500 yards) and hunting.

There is a guy that I see often at the shooting range that I shoot at every fortnight that has one ... Firstly ... It's a smart looking gun, and I would imagine that it would shoot pretty well .... He's getting under and inch @ 100m with hand loads ... Although he's only been shooting & reloading for about a year.

I wouldn't hesitate to use a VTR out to 400 - 500 yards with the right bullet ... I think that beyond that, the short barrel (and therefore loss in velocity) may make things tricky.
