A few weeks ago I picked up a second hand Remington 700 stainless 5R rifle with an HS stock on it and threaded barrel. Bore scope revealed a gun that had hardly been shot. Tooling marks from the chamber reamer we’re still visible, and all other indications were the gun had very very few rounds down the barrel. I borrowed a scope from one of my other rifles before purchasing another scope just to see if the gun would shoot. Had some ammo I had loaded up for another 300 WM Rem 700 LH rifle so I opted to shoot that. The two chambers were very close, with the 5R version having a throat ~0.008” shorter. Off to the range on Saturday just to see if the gun would shoot. The target may appear to be a bit confusing. There’s a three shot group left side of the paper that was shot with 77.0 gr IMR7977. I then dialed 4 MOA right, and shot the next three with 77.5gr IMR7977. Subsequently, I moved to 402 yds, dialed up 5.5 MOA as that’s what Shooter was calling for. That shot landed high and left. I then dialed down to 4.5 MOA and shot the next round. It landed just below the square and slightly left. I think I did okay considering what I paid for the gun. Now, I gotta get more Berger 190 VLDH’s as I’m just about out. 😁 Oh, and get another scope now. 🤓
