I am going to build a 300 Win. Mag. off of a Savage action and put a Sendero contour barrel on it. Of course it will be used for Longrange hunting and shooting, out to 1000 yards.

The problem is I am having a hard time swallowing the fact that I have to spend $500-$600+ to get one of those cool Manners or McMillan tactical stocks:rolleyes:. Is there no other options? I've burned up Google and can't find anything reasonable except a CHOATE stock Varminter and Sniper models, but they are only $189 anybody have one? Are they stiff and strong, good bedding?

The stock I buy will be one like the the Manners T-1 or T-4 or McMillan A5 or A4.

Any suggestions or experience would be greatly appreciated.gun)

If you're not opposed to laminates, get ahold of Joel Russo here. He makes a laminated version of the A5.

For a quality stock and a deal take a look at Boyds. I like the Ross thumbhole myself.

I don't know current prices, but I paid $400ish for an A5 type in a laminate from Joel Russo.

Richards Microfit is another I see a lot of. Don't know prices on these.

Sometimes ya just gotta spend what's being asked to get what you want...

Check with Stockade gunstocks, they specialize in savages. They make a very good stock for the money. If you buy the money saver version, you can save even more money, all you have to do is paint it yourself.I have the prarie dog/tactical stock, and love it.

I actually did come across them and they were high on my list of serious ones to consider. I'm glad to hear from someone that has experience with one. What does it weigh? Did you have to bed the action?

The stockade pd special is pretty much a clone of the McMillian A5. It's a great stock for the money and you don't have to wait forever to get it. I have one on a 7wsm and it's a sweet 1k gun. Just my 2 cents.

I am not sure what they weigh,Kevin(owner of stockade) has my rifle right now,he is rechambring my 300WM to a 7mmWSM,so I can't weigh it for you.I would just call them and ask for Kevin,he will tell you everything you need to know about them, they make the stocks themselves. I bedded the action,it is very easy with that stock,I don't know if it was completely necessary, but I did it anyway's.

    +1!

I never actually purchased one from him but I did some homework and they are very nice stocks. Top quality lamanates and Joel is a great guy to deal with. I talked to him a couple times on the phone and he had one in stock for me that someone ordered but backed out of -- cheap!! If I would have continuted with my project It would definately have a russo stock on it!

I don't know if it's the look that you want, but the B&C duramx is a great stock for the money. I put one on a 110fp and I couldn't be happier with it.

Reasonable is a very subjective term --- you pretty much get what you pay for with composite stocks.

I just installed a Stockade on a Savage based 338 Edge. I had the barrel installed sans barrel nut so I had to ream out the barrel channel just infront of the recoil lug.

For the money I paid, the stock is great.
