My question has to do with charge size. I understand, and have experienced first hand a change in both H1000 and Retumbo, requiring less powder over the last couple of years.
I just received my 338 Savage FCP 338 and am about to work up loads starting with H1000. I have an 8# bottle bought within the last 5 months. I did a fairly extensive search on this site and came up with a starting load which is 89 gr. of H1000, 300gr Berger Hybrid, 215 primer, Lapua brass, .025 off lands. My question has to do with charge size. I understand, and have experienced first hand a change in both H1000 and Retumbo, requiring less powder over the last couple of years. Is 89gr. as a starting point Ok, or should I back off a couple of grains. Has anyone worked up loads with the most current lots of this powder. I'm looking for 2750-2800 FPS out of my 26" barrel. Thanks.
