Well I came to the same conclusion as you on the 300 PRC, and bought another 300 win mag. After my initial experience with 7 PRC, I am now waiting to get my rifle back after repairs from Ruger, wish I would have trusted my gut. I should have purchased the new weatherby action and bought a barrel in 7mm Weatherby with right twist rate I wanted and a light weight custom stock. Not real happy with the Hornady factory ammunition for this 7mm PRC caliber as I believe that caused my issue as some rounds definitely were hotter than others. I had never had an issue with Hornady ammo. I have shot many other calibers with Hornady ammunition, 6.5 creedmoor or .375 ruger, 300 win mag, etc and never had a problem. But will see maybe everything will work out, just not real happy right now. I have never had a problem with any of my Ruger firearms before either.
