I'm running a 26 inch barrel on a Browning A Bolt, 270 win. I plan on shooting 130 and 140 Accubonds and Triple Shocks. Help me out with some suggestions on powders, I'd really like to try to get these to run at over 3100, could probably go 3200 with the long tube.

Accurate Magpro, R25?! Help me out.

Just read an article in Guns magazine. You can check it out online for free. The author of the story suggested RL22, H4831sc, Ramshot Hunter, and H4350. Those would be the ones to give a try according to the article. I think he used CCI primers too. Welcome to LRH by the way. I know we used IMR 4064 w/ Nosler 150 ballistic tips.

I use 63 gr RL 22 with Fed 215 magnum primers and get 3080 FPS with a 140 gr accubond out of a 22" tube.

Sorry, I misread the original thread, this load data is for a WSM.

Best accuracy has been IMR 4350 for me.

My Winchester gives great results with AA 4350.

We load a lot of 7828 with 130gr bullets.

My sons 22 inch barrel 270 just loves h4831sc pushing a 130 grain sst. It shoves them at 3060fps it is a compressed load but has no pressure signs even when it is hot out.

    Good luck, Jason

bigngreen, How's your velocity and accuracy with that 7828? I use that for a wildcat 300 mag I shoot... never thought about it for 270.

We ran it over a crony once but it was so fast that I don't believe it, I even shot my 270 WSM which I know exactly what it shoots over the crony between the shots with the 270 win and my WSM was spot on velocity but the Win was a little faster on the crony than my WSM. Accuracy holds about 1 MOA with 130gr soft points, going to try some 140 Accubonds, 140 Bergers and 165 Matrix to try to dial it down and go long range with it.

H4831 is a wonderfully temperature stable powder. So when you sight-in in July you will be able to hit your target in November. I like to use H4831 or 4831sc in every cartridge where it will work well.

This temperature stable thing does not apply to all reloading powders.
Also, 58gr of H4831 has been the traditional load for the 270.
Please start -10% and work up. Your results may vary. :D

4851 is definitely old standby... I think I'm gonna go with R22 and 7828 in search of better MVs. May as well take advantage of a lengthy tube. What say you??

Part of our upcoming test is loading 4831 and 7828 against each to see what can happen, hopefully we'll get out and get it done soon.
