I was just given a rifle that is a bit of a mystery. It is a Sako Finnbear that was in 7mm Rem Mag. I was told that it was rechambered for 7mm Dakota. The bolt face is opened up properly. It came with RCBS group G 7mm Dakota dies But it came with 100 pcs of new 300 Dakota brass. The caliber marking on the barrel was not changed and there is a note with it saying that it was reamed to 300 due to left over Rem Mag chamber cuts. Could this rifle be a 7mm-300 Dakota hybrid?? Could the 300 be cut while still leaving a 7mm neck?? As a side note it has a beautifully installed brake. I am away from home but will eventually do a chamber casting to see what the heck is up with it. I'm going to try to contact the gunsmith that did the work but he is hard to get ahold of. What is the normal routine for rechambering a 7 Mag to 7 Dakota??? Just straight forward and leave the slight step near the shoulder????
