Do older remington actions (1970's) true up easier than current ones

Not in MHO. Since Rem re-tooled with new CNC machinery, I think they are better. I will say that I don't like the dull matte finish they are using on the SPS models.

Each batch going through heat treat has it's own characteristics.

I haven't found the old ones any better than the new ones. Pretty much a consensus. They all need to be trued up. Like EddieHarren, I don't like the SPS finish either.

Sounds like you should buy a custom clone and not have the problems associated with a Remington.

They are made straight from the get go.
