Old Ruger 223 loads

Want to do some varmint shooting this coming spring, with an Ruger.
Sure that the twist is 1-12 or 1-14 22 in barrel .....
What would you recommend for a bullet shooting ground squirrels to woodchuck size varmints.
The range would be from say 100 to 300 yards.....
