[ QUOTE ] Going up to the 338 you have any of the rounds from 338 Win Mag up to the 338 RUM. Recoil is more but they work extremely well on big elk. Brakes can control recoil as well!! [/ QUOTE ] Well, I've been in the same position, Lovdasnow. I'm about to send off my Sako/Lazz to get turned into a 7mm AM, but have been doing quite well so far with a used Ruger M77 .338 RemMag that I rebarrelled (with brake), trigger-lightened, trued and bedded. Total in: $750. Result: more accurate than I am, out to 400 yards with a decent scope. I tend to use the Sako/Lazz more often, and probably will use the 7mm AM even more, but the Ruger .338 has taken elk quite handily.
