Ya i wish the RMEF would come in here and do what they did with kentucky in this area of arkansas that would be awesome to have as many as they do.... The counts say we only have somewhere in the mid 400's while they have went from about 1000-10000 since about 1994

You've got as many or more than we do in Idaho then.

Don't let them bring wolves into your arear!

Very cool! More elk in the midwest is always a good thing.

I wish they'd do sopme work in Texas... there are a couple of small free ranging herds in far West Texas but the TPW department has them listed as "exotics" because they supposedly compete/out-compete desert bighorns and are not the "native" Merriam's elk which are extinct.

RMEF, HELP TEXAS OUT! Shed some light on their outdated management practices!

My brother was one of the lucky ones to draw an Arkansas elk tag. Seasoned opened Monday. He played caller for another young man on Monday, who ended the day with an 8x6. Brother had drawn a cow tag, which he filled early Tuesday morning.
I have not bothered putting in for the draw, but will from now on.

God I hope so! A Texan bought the Dana Ranch (60K+ acres) last year. It is still part of the BMA but only <10% and significantly lower hunter numbers are allowed.

I heard they tried to put high fences to keep the estimated 1000+ elk herd like in Texas but got shot down.

Ive seen elk in private ranches here in texas, but never free roaming. Boy that would be the day.

Id likely be to dumbfounded to do anything but stare.

I am glad to hear that got shot down. I grew up here in Texas but had the pleasure of living in Washington State and hunting the NW for 2 decades after I got out of the Navy.

Coming back to Texas was actually a disappointment to me on the hunting front as I can apply for out of state tags for less that the price of a "Deer Lease" in Texas.

One of my best friends from the Navy was from just south of you Feenix, he grew up in Stockett/Sand Coulee...

There are 2-3 herds of free ranging in the Sierra Diablo Mountains, in Big Bend Ranch State Park, and in the Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management Area and the adjoining lands of said 3 locations.

Read the article in the following web page, there is some excellent materials on the backwards thinking of the State Legislature and the TPWD's total elimination policy of elk as an "exotic" species:
