a while back i got a 721 30-06 ina trade.manu date is 4/51.has a 24in barrel with open sights shoots like a dream with sights and has never had a scope mounted on it.barrel is excellent,im saving up for a viper 4-12 PA.i love these old closet queens:D

Its a great rifle the M721. That being said, I just sold mine.
The stock has a lot of drop in the heel and comb. Scoping one means stay away from big objectives like the 50mms. It can be tough to get a good cheek weld if you do.
Felt recoil with that much drop goes up too.
They are great guns, but by modern standards they need a modern stock. Retro-fit a M700 stock and all will be well.
Be careful of the extractors too. Sticky bolt lift during load work-up is a no-no.
The extractors are no longer available, and the M700 extractors don't fit.

A Sako conversion will fix that, if yours has no collector value.
