I-know;-I've-changed-this-project-a-couple-of-times;-but-I
have-decided-to-change-the-caliber.-I-was-going-with-a
30-378-Weatherby-Magnum;-however;-I've-decided-to-go-with
a-300-WSM-instead.-I-ve-decide-I-want-to-shoot-the-lighter
poly-tipped-bullets-like-the-110grn-V-Max-and-125grn-
Ballistic-Tip.-This-rifle-will-be-strictly-used-for-100-to
1000-yard-varmint-shooting.-I-am-trying-to-decide-on-what
twist-rate-to-use-for-this-project.-I-will-only-be-using-
the-110grn-V-Max-and-the-125grn-Ballistic-Tip;-so-I-am-thinking-a-1-14-twist-will-work-best-for-the-110-and-125grn
bullets.-I-would-like-to-here-what-you-guys-think-regarding-
twist-rate.-Will-a-1-10-twist-work-for-those-bullets-or-would-the-1-14-twist-work-best.-Once-again-here-the-specs;

1.-300-WSM;-.333-Tight-Neck
2.-Lawton-7500-Action;-1.450-Dia.;Fluted-Bolt;-Oversized-Bolt-Knob
3.-Krieger-30";-1-14-twist;-1.350-for-5"-tapered-to-1.250
at-the-muzzle;-it-will-be-throated-for-the-110grn-V-Max
and-125grn-Ballistic-tip.
4.-McMillan-Tooley-MBR;5lbs-lead-added-to-rear-80%Black-10%White-10%Grey;-with-removable-front-stud-for-BI-Pod-use.
5.-Jewel-2oz-trigger
6.-Vias-Muzzle-Brake
7.-Lawton-20MOA-Base
8.-Nightforce-30MM-Rings
9.-Nightforce-8x32x56mm-NXS-with-NP-R2-Reticle
10.-The-rifle-will-weight-around-25LBS

I-will-also-have-a-Lawton-30"-1-10-twist-barrel-too;
-So-if-I-can't-use-it;-I-will-be-selling-it.

I-have-read-that-the-300-WSM-with-a-.333-tight-neck-chamber
throated-for-the-110grn-V-Max-and-125grn-Ballsitic-tip
is-one-hell-of-a-flat-shooting-varmint-rig.-I-saw-the-
article-on-Richards-Custom-Rifles.-The-accuracy-and-veocity
he-is-getting-from-this-chamber-is-awesome.-He-is-shooting
the-125grn-Ballistic-Tip-at-4025-fps-and-it-shot-a-.162-6-
shot-group-at-100-yards;-that-is-awesome.-My-gunsmith-talked-to-me-about-this-chambering-too;-so-I-decided-
to-do-some-reserch-and-I-decided-this-is-the-way-I-want
to-go.-I-love-the-poly-tipped-bullets;-they-blow-the
varmints-up.-I-know-the-VLD-bullets-are-the-best-for
long-range-shooting;-but-they-don't-produce-the-expolsive
power-that-the-poly-tiped-bullets-produce.-Like-I-said
I-will-only-be-shooting-out-to-1000-yrads;-so-this-rig-
will-be-perect.-A-125grn-Ballistic-Tip-traveling-at-4025-fps
is-going-to-produce-some-awesome-RED-MIST-shows.

Also;-the-recoil-will-be-light-do-to-the-weight-of-the-rifle;-muzzle-brake;and-light-bullets-and-that-will-allow
me-to-watch-the-hits.-I-think-this-is-going-to-be-a-great
varmint-rig-with-lots-of-power;-great-brass;-and-tremendous
accuracy.-I-can't-wait-to-use-it.

Let-me-know-what-you-guys-think-about-the-twist-rate.

Good grief...

You don't have a love for barrel life huh...

You are looking at 3500 fps +

That bullet 125 BT stays super sonic to 1K but not sure that would be my optimum choice of bullets for 1K shooting. Me thinks the wind will play effortlessly and joyfully with it past 500

i agree with "on again-off again", i mean Ric, that thing will be heal on wheels for the first 5, but on out? don't think you'll connect as well as if you used a better BC bullet. as far as the twist goes, you'll have to use a 15-16 because with a 10 twist those 110's might not make it very far at all.

if you want red mist past 500, just use a 300rum with 190 smk's and hit the ground in front of them instead of hitting them directly.not exactly something for a PETA production!

How about 1-11" 180-210 gr.You can do like Dave says and blow them up grenade style or hit them direct and cut them in half,plus its good to go for big game. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I-am-going-to-stick-with-the-300-WSM-and-the-Light-bullets.-Were-I-shoot;the-wind-never-gets-bad;-so-I-am-not-worried-about-that.-I-ve-had-600-yards-+-shots-on-squirrles-with-a-223-using-50grn-V-max-bullets.-I-am-betting-a-125grn-Ballistic-Tip-at-4000-fps-will-be-pretty-darn-accurate-out-to-1000-yards.-I-guess-I-am-going-to-find-out-soon.-I-know-it-will-be-fun.

Hey-guys-I-made-a-Mistake.-I-am-using-a-Lawton-Barrel-not-a-Krieger;-however-as-soon-as-I-receive-the-Krieger-Barrel-I-will-be-selling-it.-It-has-a-1-10-Twist-Rate-and-will-be-for-.30-cal.

I-don't-over-heat-my-barrles-when-I-shoot;-so-I-am-not
worried-about-barrel-life.-And-if-a-burn-the-barrel-out;-I-will-get-another-one;-but-I-am-thinking-I-will-get-some-
good-shooting-out-of-it.-I-have-done-some-reserch
already-and-it-looks-like-I-will-be-using-VHITIVORIA-N550
for-powder-and-that-should-allow-me-to-get-the-velocity-at
a-little-over-4000-fps.-I-know-the-Ballistic-Tips-and-V-
Max-bullets-aren't-the-best-choice-for-long-range-work;
but-I-am-thinking-the-125grn-Ballistic-Tip-will-work-fine
out-to-1000-yards.-We-don't-have-that-much-wind-where-we
shoot-squirrels-so-the-wind-wont-be-a-probelm.-I-am
really-looking-forward-to-shooting-this-rig.-My-friend
uses-a-308-for-varmint-hunting-and-he-uses-the-125grn
Ballistic-Tip-traveling-at-about-3200-fps.-It-is-awesome
when-he-hits-a-squirrel.-He-has-made-many-of-shots-out-to
1000-yards-with-great-success-using-the-125grn-bullet.-So-I
am-thinking-with-me-being-able-to-push-the-same-bullet-at-over-4000-fps;-it-should-allow-me-to-be-pretty-succeful
out-to-1000-yards;-and-will-also-make-for-some
really-devasting-MIST-factor.-I-believe-the-125grn
Ballistic-Tip-has-a-BC-of-.366-so-that's-pretty-good.-I-know
it's-not-as-good-as-the-VLD-bullets;-but-I-am-sure-it-will
work-great-for-what-I-want-to-do.-Anyhow;-it-should-be-fun.
