Looking for some suggestions on where to go Javelina hunting in, well New Mexico.

I did not get a drawn for the coveted Barbary Sheep hunt and now I see some Javelina tags are available.

Tags are for - Statewide, except Units 19 and 23-27, Jan. 16-March 31, 2011

Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Rick

Yeah, it's a bummer barbary sheep went OTC, I didn't draw either.

To be honest leftover javalina tags are going to be rough because the majority of the good hunting is in 23-27. The other units aren't bad, but they are so spread out. I have seen them in 30, 31, and 36. With 30 and 31 you have alot of rough country to cover, but if you knock on doors of private land owners/ranchers they are usually more then willing to tell you where they are and may even let you hunt their property.

Personally I will be putting in for 36. The western edge of the Lincoln NF transitions from mixed conifer to PJ...thats where you will find them.

Good luck!
