I am having a 1/8 twist .223 remington built on a M700 action. I will be using Hornady 75 gr BTHP's, 75 gr A MAX's and 77 grain SMK's. Does anyone have any load advice?

My brother was shooting 25 gr Varget @28xx out of his 20" barrel with good results.

Using 2230, the loads were too hot and blowing primers at 22.8 gr.

You may want to try about 24 gr of Ramshot TAC. Looks promising from what I've heard.

Thanks for the info! That velocity sounds good, cause my rifle being built will have a Broughton 5C 26" barrel. What powder charge is good to use with TAC?

Lobo,

I've run TAC, H4895 and Varget in my 1:9 Wilson barrel w/ a Wilde leade. The first powders provided, for my barrel, the best accuracy. Pick a bullet and run with it 1st, trying different powders. Hopefully you'll find your load. If not, pick another bullet and do it again.

Good Luck.

I use a 1-8 twist .223 Rem both bolt and semi. Here are a few loads. To get the best out of the 1-8 {depending on barrel length you might try Mk's or Berger 80gr'ers.
80gr. Varget [24.2 grs] Rem 7 1/2 BR vel's 28" barrel 2950 fps
80gr. VV-N150 [25.0 grs] WSR vel's 2950 fps
80gr. VV-N540 [24.5 grs] 7 1/2 BR vel's 2925 fps
77gr. Varget [24.0 grs] vel's 2800 fps in a 20" barrel AR.
Unless you need the repeating box magazine of a bolt rifle, I'd put in a Sinclair mag block for M700 SA and shoot the 80grs.... there a hoot in a 1-8 twist rifle at LR.
