Either caliber is going to do the job just fine, but if it were me I would go 7mm-08, that's all I was saying. The .260 is a great round, but when comparing the two side by side, the 7 is just a better overall round in my opinion. The most important thing to think about: dead is dead. The caliber isn't going to do her any good if she's not confident enough with it to make well placed shots, so that's how you should make your decision. As for the barrel - I had a 22" sporter on my Winchester Model 70. It would shoot sub MOA at 100 yards and reach 300 yards pretty easily. I did have to wait a minute or two in between shots though. Keep in mind, this was with a 7mm mag, so that's a lot more energy (and heat) going through the barrel than what the 08 or .260 will bring.
