Wanting to buy a traditional muzzleloader kit (Hawkins or Kentucky style) to build and take hunting in California. The kits that I have been finding have twist rates 1:48-60+ for .50 cal which are too slow to stabilize a mono bullet which need a 1:30~ twist.

Looking for recommendations either for kits or bullet ideas for the slower twist rate.

You can refine the results by twist rate. Not a lot in stock at the moment but it'll give you an idea hat to look for

If you have the ability you can cast some lee REAL bullets or round balls out of certified bismuth and it'll perform pretty close to real lead and still be legal for lead free states. A 1:48 twist might shoot round balls and bullets like the REAL bullet or something like the Hornady Great Plains bullet equally well. The 1:48 is a middle of the road twist for both and that's why most modern traditional muzzleloaders are in that twist. If you want a traditional muzzleloader that will shoot heavy bullets like a 300 or 400 grain bullet look into getting a custom barrel in a 1:20 twist for whatever kit you choose.
