We found a few bucks in the first group and 2 of them were shooters. I got Baylee set up on the biggest one because it was his first deer hunt. He just has a duplex on his 300 ultra so I used my ballistics program to give him hold over for 400 yards. but by the time he could get a good position the deer were at 525 and almost out of sight He was able to get a shot off that must have been just low because it made him do a funny dance and I saw the bullet hit right behind him on the hill. We went over to see if he had been hit and just ran around the hill and died. Once we got over there there was nothing there so we walked about another 1/4 mile and glassed. [QUOTE="Tikkamike, post: 557679, member: 22242"] This weekend my buddy , brother in law (Baylee) and I went up the mountain for the general deer opener. We had been hunting a canyon with no luck all morning and decided to head back to the truck. My buddy had to go back to town so me and Baylee decided to go on up and see if we could find some deer. There they were across the canyon at the bottom, so i was trying to get Baylee ready but we were on a super steep hill and there was no way for him to get a rest and the deer were leaving in a hurry. Finally i told him i was gonna just shoot it. they got to the top of the canyon and stopped I ranged him at 675 yards dialed it in the scope of my 338 Lapua and let it go. I heard it hit and saw it hit him hard, it almost knocked him down but he regained footing and wobbled over the hill. We headed over there and couldnt find him and decided to head back to the truck because we were about 3 miles from it. Then yesterday I headed back up there with my dad and thanks to the crows I found him within just a few minutes of getting to the ridge. Some of you will notice the rifle in the picture is not my 338, Its my 25-06, I decided if I were packing a deer out I would rather carry my 6 lb rifle over my 12 lb rifle... So thats why its in the pic.
