Hey guys, I have a Remington Model 7 in 7mm-08 and I love the gun. The only downfall is it is so light at the muzzle that 4 out of 5 shots, the gun kicks up instead of back hitting me across the bridge of the nose. Anybody know what can be changed on the rifle to eliminate this problem? I want to keep the gun as light as possible since it is the gun i use if I'm walking around or stalking deer. Also, I do not want to put on a muzzle break because I'm quite fond of my hearing and my style of hunting does not give me the chance to put in ear plugs before every shot. I'm not against a new, slightly longer barrel but nothing longer than 21-22 inches since it is thick where I hunt. Thanks you any advice y'all can give.

I've got a model 7 in 7-08AI. It weights about 8-8.5 lbs all up. Recoil is so light I hardly notice. The barrel is #3 taper and 22 inches.

A little heavier barrel would help your gun. The only other thing I can think of is to Magna port. A couple ports pointing up.

Right now my gun tops out a little over 7lbs. Would a new barrel add a lot of weight to the gun? I've never heard of a magna port. I'll look into it. Thanks

Does your scope give you enough eye relief? I have seen some scopes that nearly required my eyelashes to touch it to get a full sight picture. Those are ok on a 22LR, but anything else and you better have a first aid kit handy.
A buddy of mine had a Simmons scope that was like that on a 300WM with a sporter barrel. Needles to say, when he asked me to shoot if for him I had a death-grip on that bad boy.

The scope doesn't have the longest eye relief in the world but I'm not that close to it. I plan on changing out scopes sometime soon any way

One thing that helped me was to get the stock shortened. The other thing is to pull it harder into your shoulder. Fitting the rifle has a lot to do with recoil.

I do pull the gun in nice and snug and to me anyway the stock is almost too short as is. I think I'm gonna have to find a slightly longer barrel and head that route. Thanks for the advice though

The best way for you to get rid of the recoil is to sell the gun to me. I have been searching everywhere for a model 7. :)

Haha. Sorry but I'm gonna hang on to the gun. Other than the muzzle jump, it is one of the best rifles I own. It would almost be like selling my arm. I've tried the limb saver thing that you put on the muzzle to reduce jump and vibration but all it did was melt and leave black rubber that was a pain to get off.

Try the limb saver slip on recoil pad.
