Would you use on Bear a .35 Marlin or a .45/70? what would you use?
The 45/70 just about knocked out fillings in my teeth.

I have the Guide Gun in 45-70 and it is a thumper for sure! Using 40k level loads and proper bullets it's totally capable of big bears. Mine is accurate as well, shooting under an inch even with me pulling the trigger!

I would use the 444 Marlin for bear, and the 45/70 would be my second choice
when using the lever action marlin.

Both have some recoil but are manageable.

The 45-70 with the right ammunition is big enough to take whatever you wish to shoot in North America given it is short range. I have a couple and with the more powerful handloads it is quite the kicker!!!!!

I own a Marlin rifle and Guide Gun in 45/70 so I guess you can see what I'd use...

I'm not very active here, but I spend a lot of time on the range. One of my favorites rifles is my Marlin 1895 in .45-70. I reload for it and love to shoot it. It is very accurate and seems to have ample power with the proper ammunition for your needs, so I vote for the .45-70!
