Looking for new Rem. 700 any advice?

Sorry for the newbie type question.
I thinking about buying a new rifle and have been looking at the Remington 700 LTR, VSF and have also looked at the R5. in .308

I would like build some confidence in deer hunting beyond 300 yards. I am not really looking for a custom job, just something better than average thats not going to break the $1000 mark for the rifle.

Any advice or experience with the above mentioned rifles??

Buy the Savage 10 w/either the McMillan stock or the HS stock. I'd bet 10 to 1 that it will outshoot most Remingtons.
