OP, I can't speak to where you live and hunt but, out in Oklahoma where I grew up and own land, having doctors and lawyers go to the local "gun store" and buy a 300 Win Mag for deer season was a classic! Why would I need to sight it in, they zero the scope at the store! 🤣 Then we have to deal with the idiots with their 4x4 hunting rigs where they run through gates instead of opening them, letting the cattle out, and making us buy another gate. Of course, none of them had a lease or even asked permission to hunt our land! If you lived further West, I would be happy to help you find something good for you and your family! 😉 If you want to hunt feral hogs, Texas has plenty but, to be honest, if I was willing to travel that far I would go North for Pronghorns. Finally, don't discount Rabbits and Squirrels with a good rimfire! While not "big game" with a nice trophy to hang on the wall, those are generally widely available to hunt with lots of fun at very modest costs. Between urban sprawl and commercial interests, unfortunately, a lot of average people are being priced out of hunting opportunities. Then, when you add restrictions or outright removal of public land opportunities, there isn't much left except for old holdouts like myself with some property. Best Wishes for a good outcome in your case!
