The Magpul 20 round magazines arrived. They fit the LR-308 receivers nicely and fall free when the magazine release is pressed. The DMPS mags fall as freely. The Magpuls fit to all of the 308 based cartridges IF the cartridge OALS are are no longer than the 2.80 SAAMI spec. That includes the 243 Win, 260 Rem, 308, and 338 Federal. There is very little additional clearance for length The 6.5 Creedmoor 140 grain AMax is right at the 2.80 limit (measured 2.7985), but it clears. The factory DPMS metal mags do have more clearance as they can handle handle 300 SAUM cartridgs which have a 2.825 SAAMI max length (Factory 190 grain Remington cartridges measure 2.8190 and they don't fit the magpul case for lengh. The DPMS mags can offer a littel advantage when trying to squeeze a bit more perfomance from VLD bullets. The magpuls dont seem to like the diameter ether. I didn't ry shorter 300 SAUM load because I don't have any made up. But then, no one said they should fit. The DPMS factory mags use a different plastic follower for the SAUM cartridges but it's the same metal for both. The DPMS SAUM follers wouldn't fit (or help) the Magpul magazines. The Magpuls are lighter at 5.5 oz empy verssus 8.1 oz for the DPMS 20 round mag. I haven't shot with the Magpuls yet but I don't expect a problem.
