I'm new to the forum,so I hope this question is in the right area. I just picked up a Savage Long Range Precision Varminter Rifle.I'm wanting to shoot 69gr. bullets in it. I've reloaded for over 30yrs. but mostly 223,and 22-250's with light bullets. Any information on loading the "Heavier Bullets" would be greatly appreciated. The gun has a 1-9 twist barrel,so I think bullets up to around 70gr. will work. Thanks, Ron S

Hey Ron,
I use 24.5gr of Varget when loading 69gr matchkings. In my 12BVSS they shoot very well. I used to have a 12FV and that load shot very well in that too. Both of them had 1 in 9 twist barrels.

Ron,
I'm guessing the caliber is .223? If this be the case, then I have had good accuracy out of 25.0gn of H4895 /w R6.5 primers. This load shot in the .3's with the Nosler J4 69gn. When I tried this same load with the Sierrra 69gn HPBT it shot even tighter. Group printed .212" @ 3004fps (100yds 3-shot group).
The rifle that I used for this load development was a Savage 110FP in .223 with the 1-9 twist barrel. Imagine my suprise when I tried the 55gn Ballistic Tip in front of 24.5-26.5gn of W748 and the R6.5 primer. My tightest group was .136", next was .162" (26.5, 25.5, respectively). This last load became my goto load for crows and such.
Good luck and have fun! JohnnyK.
