In probably 80% of all cases, a canine will chase and take down anything that runs from it, your favorite porch pooch included. A few years ago, we had a group of neighborhood dogs that packed up and started terrorizing the area. Luckily, one morning as my son (then about 4), my wife and I got ready to hit the road to go to daycare and work (we worked together at the time), I went outside to crank the truck so it would warm up. I walked outside and noticed the pack at the woods edge about 30 yards away. I just ignored them and walked out to the truck. As soon as I cleared the porch, they all 4 showed their teeth and came at me on a dead run ! Flight or fight kicked in and I had a flash of anger that these dogs dared to charge me in my own yard . I spun around to face them, hollered at the top of my lungs and ran straight at them. They freaked out and almost turned a flip to swap ends and leave the crazy dudes yard ! I still get cold chills when I think what would have happened if the wife or son had walked outside that morning before I did. Those dogs vanished one by one over the next couple weeks. Canines will chase and attack for sport, period.
