I know a husband and wife hunting duo that walked up on a very ****ed off cougar and cubs feeding on a fresh kill. The cougar startled and charged, and the wife shot the cougar 2 times within 75 feet and it made it 6 feet from her feet before it fell. Both shots with a .243. DNR was called and took the cubs (2) and removed the body. No charges were filed. The wife told me she changed her shorts after that. There were lots of discussions about the incident for quite some time afterwards, but mostly Monday morning quarterback stuff. 😴 Not sure a big caliber pistol would have helped in this situation because of the close proximity. Lessons learned. I always carry a large caliber pistol when I go hunting. No telling what I may find. Besides, my wife would beat me to pieces if I got myself eaten!😉
