So, my brother came down from Alaska to mule deer hunt with me and we went out yesterday. I figured I wouldn't take my long range rig due to my priority was getting him a buck, which we did. Nice 4 x 4.
Anyhoo, we were sitting on a ridge glassing and wouldn't you know it. Damn, damn, damn. Here comes a lone wolf over the top, never knew we were there and I just shook my head. Go figure. It would have been a long shot (800 ish) but there was no wind, level incline and had plenty of time to set up. I will NEVER do that again.

Woops, I misread the op. "Wouldn't" bring long range rig. The extra weight wouldn't have so bad after all.

Yeah, well the season ain't over yet. :)
Last year at this same location, I saw 9 wolves so I think there is a den somewhere near here. Might have to build me a perch and let those 215's fly..............

The things you see in the woods when you don't have a gun. Sucks, but it's true.

+1. I hope you take your LR rig next time only to drill him at about 50! Poetic justice!

    Hope you smoke him!

Damn the luck. You can chalk it up to good scouting with a buck pitched in as a bonus :D
