I have a basic Ruger 10/22 that I bought 10 years ago. I want to customize the gun so I can get better groups. I would love to have Kidd custom gun but just don't have the cash right know. What could I do for 400.00 to $500.00 few hundred dollars to make this gun shoot some good groups at 50 yards out to 150 yards ?
Here is what I would like to get have on the gun and what I would like the gun too do.
1…. I have about 4 bricks of the federal 550 count long rifle ammo from Walmart. I think it shoots 1260 fps and I have about 400 rounds of the CCI hot rounds that shoot 1640 fps. I want a gun that will give me some good 50 yard groups with this ammo ( right know you have to build a gun with the ammo you have I guess ). Really don't what a gun that is too ammo specific, WHAT GUN TAHT WILL GIVE ME SOME GOOD GROUPS WITH 5 OR 6 BRANDS OF AMMO
2…. I would like a very light weight gun light weight stock , not wood and light weight barrel.
3…. I will be using I think a Nikon 3-9x40 Pro Staff BDC RIMFIRE SCOPE and would like to put a 20 MOA Scope rail on it which I already have.
4….I will like too shoot is gun hunting and long range plinking. Not looking or a 1 hole group but something better than what I have.
Folks what would be your recipe for a good 10/22 custom rifle ? also could you give me some ideas what each item might cost ? not sure if I can build it my self but we will see.
Also I want to thank every one the last few days for there help answering a lot of my question on Scopes , etc.

Easy, go down to the gun store, sell the Ruger, by a CZ... Problem solved:D. Honestly, you just need a barrel and trigger. Most of the aftermarket barrels and triggers are going to be much better than the factory ones. It's more a matter of finding a good deal on 10-22 parts right now. Anything you do find, you can easily put together yourself. Youtube has a vid of just about any 10-22 change imaginable.

As far as your ammo goes, the high velocity stuff usually gets unstable as it transitions for supersonic to subsonic. I think the subsonic stuff is what most comp shooters use. That said, I'm sure any custom barrel will shoot your Fed ammo pretty well, unless it's designed for the slow stuff.

Your scope should serve pretty well. I've got one on my CZ 452 that I like, especially for the $$.

You really might think about swapping to a CZ. They're known for out-of-the box accuracy, and for eating any ammo you feed em, and liking it. I had about $700 into my last fancy Ruger and it still didn't shoot as well as the 452. All I did to the 452 was a YoDave trigger kit. I've got less than $400 into the CZ.

thanks for the good info. now you got me thinking about the CZ. MAYBE I SHOULD JUST KEEP THE 10/22 FOR HUNTING AND BUY THE CZ FOR TARGET SHOOTING. HA HA. MARTY

I have had very good results with Tactical Solution barrels on the 10/22 action. I am shooting standard and normal high velocity rounds none of the hyper loads. Triggers are a big help if you are looking for a sub moa gun. If not order the parts and modify your current trigger group.

My 10/22 shot like a Daisy BB gun before I reworked the barrel and trigger. I went to a Hogue over-molded stock, Kidd trigger kit and Kidd barrel. It is a pleasure to shoot now. Bought a CZ455 in 17HMR to shoot paper with a trigger kit.

I have a 10/22 carbine that'll shoot 1 hole groups at 50 yards. Original stock, barrel, iron sights, polished and filed the trigger and sear a bit, polished and jeweled the bolt, and did the automatic bolt release modification. A "sleeper" if you will. I have shot the living tar out of it, and it still holds true. I carry it on the quad or in the truck everywhere I go. But if you want to shoot 150 yards a tactical solutions barrel and a boyd's stock will get you what want out of it.
