One of my recent 300 WSM rifle customers wants to try Berger's 168 grain VLD .hunting bullet for a lower recoiling mid-range use.

I am not familiar with load data for the 300 WSM. Can anyone give us a starting load? I am assuming H1000 is the go-to powder.

I had good results with 70.5 grains of hodgdon superperformance with 165 grain ballistic tips

I have been doing quite a bit of experimenting with 168gr Barnes and Bergers in my 300wsm. I have used H414, I4831 and RL-17. So far RL-17 has given the best results in the accuracy and speed department, hands down.
Alliant calls for a max of 68grs of RL-17 when using 165grain bullets. So that has been my bench mark with the 168gr bullets. The ladder tests I have preformed have been consistent with that.
The ladder testing has given me a node around the 67.3grs of RL-17 in my rifle. So thats what I have been working with and so far I am very happy with it.

I hope this helps!

Len, I don't have a 168 load but I do have a 175 berger load that shoots good and is the most consistent load I have ever shot. I use 70.5 grains of h-4831sc in a norma case with the 175 vld jammed .010. 215 m primers. The first three shots I thought the chrono was broke but it was counting shots. The readings were 2949,2949,2949,2951,2952. I will find out the twist and length on the barrel but it is an FN rifle. Should work great in a Brux barrel.

I have also been working good OCW load with H4350. Right now I am looking at 63.9 grs of H4350 with Win LRM primers. That is behind a 168gr Barnes TSX.
It put 5 shots inside 3/4 of an inch.

4350 is the ticket for 165's in my father's striker pistol in 300 wsm also, but I'm thinking it's Imr 4350. Nice little toy that pistol! I watched him dump a deer with it at 300 yards once.
