How necessary is a parallax adjustment?

I would just like a pretty broad overview on this.
The reasoning is because I am looking at a lower
end Leupold for long range shooting, and one of the
scopes I was looking at is the VX-3 4.5-14x40mm with
the CDS.

is this scope usable for 700-800 yards?

You might want to check some of the links below. In general, the longer the target distance, the less useful it is to have a parallax adjustment. Many non pareallax scopes are factory designed to be parallax free at 200 or 300 yards. But you should eliminate parallax if you are sighting in at 100 or 200 yards.

I had the same scope but without CDS and an ART Reticle mounted on my 270wsm. I had no issues with parallax out at 700-800 yards. As with any scope, with or without parallax adjustment, make sure your cheek weld is consistent, and your eye is centered as you look through the scope so you see no shadowing.

I have the same scope on my stw. I have shot out to 900 and have had no problems. The cds also works very well and is right on the money for the info i sent leupold.
