Since you cant make everyone happy you will just have to compromise and make it a full widtth banner at the top of a new Long Range Hunting and Wildlife Photography home page, a new portal to LRH forums, LRH Basics, FAQs, A Link Page and a gateway to whatever photography info your heart desires. A whole new storefront, clean, organized, professional, inviting.

Okay... that sounds good! Portal, FAQ, Beginner Section (call it the Advanced Section so folks will read some of it... no-one reads the Beginner Sections).
But if the banner becomes full width wont the loons look long and squatty, like loonigators. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Posting in the "Beginners" section is like driving in the slow lane while talking on your cell phone and snarfing your Bic Mac. Always better to drive slow in the fast lane and make people go around and post your beginners question in the Hunting section so people will believe you actually go hunting. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No, seriously, a main page that has a nice banner with easy to access site features arranged below might make a nice change if it works for Len. Since we are getting more categories it might be nice to have a sort of launchpad for newbies to read on things like what seperates regular hunting from LRH and what the equipment differences are (generally) between standard rifles and those used for LRH. Maybe an introduction to the moderators of the site and their experiences. There are a number of things that could be put there that would make the first visit feel less like starting in the middle of a story or trying to make friends on an elevator. On most commercial sites you open a page that has some sort of attractive banner or picture. seldom do you go to a site and just get a list that opens another list. Something like this or this for instance. Something simple and clean and easy on the eyes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Don't focus on the content of these examples. Focus on the layout.
