Have any of you shot whitetails w/ Hornady's HPBT bullets? I've got some 180s and 168s that are shooting well from two of my rifles and I was wondering how they'd do on small whitetails(Broad side shots).

Glad to see you are OK and have electricity.

I tried the Hornady match 162 HPBTs back in 1980 out of my 7mmWby. The jacket is/was just very very thin and the bullets would not penetrate. Shot a mule deer at 30 yds and did not even get through the scapula. Did not even break the scapula. At 1100 yds - same thing. Just could not get it to kill anything at any range. Swore off match bullets and have not shot them at an animal since. Everybody else on this forum seems to have different experiences than me. I do not know why.

Maybe they are better nowdays. Maybe 30 cal bullets are different. Certainly the eastern whitetail is smaller than what I was shooting at. Maybe at moderate velocities but not high nor low the bullet works better.

Anyway, I bet every thing where you are is pretty soggy right now.

    good luck

It did'nt get to terribly bad where we are thank goodness. We lost power for a few hours and the wife and I picked up tree limbs for a few hours yesterday evening. Our family from Lake Charles and Sulfur got pounded pretty hard. They probably will not have power for some time.
