I have been in search of a coyote rifle that I can shoot out to 700 with. I would like to be 22-250ai or bigger since I want drt. Not to mention that we also get to shoot mountain lions. What are your thoughts on a great rifle/bullet for shooting coyote, bobcat and fox without blowing the living crap out of them.

I know this is a very difficult question since long-range and fur friendly are almost impossible but there's got to be something that is close to the idea rifle and bullet.

Since it sounds like you reload I would look into the bullets first. My first choice would be the 55gr Berger's in .20 cal BC is awesome at .381
    20BR
    20-250
    20x47

Next I would lean towards 70-80gr Bergers in a .22cal or the 75gr AMax

    Lots of choices.

if your gonna shoot that far and still want knockdown power, get a .243. just better at bucking the wind. I wouldnt shoot a coyote inside 300 yards if you want to keep the pelt though.

    +1 on what angus said.

we switched to the 6mm's years ago. wind drift kills the the 22 cals out past 250-300 yards.

we run amaxes and vmaxes. critters are DRT

most of our barrels are 7.5 to 8 twists to run the heavies.

Most of our bobcat country is tighter, in close stuff. No long range kills on bobcats. pack a 223 with 77smk's loaded down to about 2550. great kitty load and little damage.

    Good luck !

for years i have been running a 243. ive ran both 105 bergers and amax they are great on long range. there are on the other hand very devistating on close shots.
i am trying to find something that will be alittle better for short and long range.

Anyone tried 75 or 87grain vmax on longer shots and how are they on close shots?

I use 88gr Berger FB VLD Varmints for coyotes in my 6mm-06. But bullets I have found so far for FUR Friendly.

Not enough gun for shooting 700 yards with DRT knock down.

The soft points along with AMax and Berger Match are my favorite out of my .223AI. I avoid Ballistic Tips, I had one blow up on shoulder.

What would be a good round and configuration fo pistol say ot to 200-250 yards?. I am thinking 223 becuse I have seen what a 243 does to the back side of the exit hole.
