Just started my first custom rifle build. Here's what I'm thinking:

Remington 700 ADL SA (had .243, will convert to .308)
Hart 26" barrell, remington #3 varmint contour, vapor blasted
    New Callahan firing pin (suggestions?)
    HS Precision PSV004 (on order)
PLT bolt with Sako style extractor
    Harris Bipod
Leupold MK4 or Nightforce optics (suggestions welcome)
picatinny style base with high quality rings (suggestions welcome)

Comments and/or suggestions very welcome. I'm a newbie to the long range game.

    Whats it for?

If it where we I would stick with the 243 or go with 260rem for hunting.

Looks like a good selection. Several of them I was considering myself for when I do a custom rifle. Looks like you're off to a good start!

What's your plan or how are you going to "convert" your .243 to a .308?

Just guessing, but I think he'll just put a new barrel on the action and be done. :Dgun)

the "conversion" will just be putting a new barrel on the action. I'll be using this gun for long range shooting, and whitetail hunting.
