Either EGW base or Remington base threads are way off, what to do?
I just installed an EGW 20 MOA tactical base, seekins rings, and a Zeiss conquest 6.5 x 20 on a stock remington 700 .300 RUM. The scope looks 18 MOA to the left! I swapped scopes and rings and the same thing happens. As it's either a horrible base from EGW or the factory tapped base holes are aligned to the left, what are my realistic otions. I would like to keep the rings and base, but don't know whether or not a good smith can re-tap the receiver to make the holes straight or if I'm stuck with a windage-adjustable type base. Considering the caliber, I'd like to stay with the 1 piece 1913 base if at all possible. Thoughts, solutions? Thanks.
