Dry Firing

I was reading the stickies and in one of the posts someone recommended dry firing the rifle to practice trigger control. I had always been told not to dry fire a weapon because it will damage the firing pin. Which is correct? The rifle I will be using is a M1903a3 which has a two piece firing pin. Does this change anything?

Use of a snap cap will remove any chance of damage due to dry firing.

No, but I am guessing that they are expensive.

Those old Springfields are now collectable, good Mausers are, too. We thought we'd never run out of them, but we are. And, parts too, are getting harder and harder to find (those that aren't just rusty junk or just plain worn out, that is). Older firearms were not made of the same kind of steels or with the same technologies as those made today.
