[QUOTE="Boss Hoss, post: 139993, member: 5060"] I am in the process of doing the same thing except with a heavy gun and it will be made with Curl-Leaf Mountain Mahogany which is the most stable of the woods that would make blank large enough for a 5 in wide footprint. I am going to make a trip to the ranch in New Mexico to cut some screwbean but it will be for hunting rifles as the likelihood of finding a tree that is large and pretty enough will be slim at the very best plus I don’t want to wait 4 years for it to cure. As soon as my English blank gets here I am sending the barrel(make sure the channel is perfect the action is a Predator)and blank to George at AI to make me a varmint stock out of it. He will also be building the stock for the heavy gun when I get the blank in the next couple of months. I prefer wood and this little experiment will be interesting to say the least.
