What exactly does "Truing the action" do for you? Is it really needed?

Also, what does "bead blasting" do for you?

Looking at my 1st "custom build," decided on 7mm Rem Mag as my caliber...

I am debating 3 options...
1) Buy a new Rem M700 SPS SS 7mm ($~600)
Cut 2" off the barrel (to 24") (not sure what a smith would charge for this)
Buy a good quality stock and bed the rifle ($200-$500+)
2) Look for a beat up M700 in 7mm ($300)
Put a Douglas #2 on it in 24" 1-9 twist
Buy a good quality stock and bed the rifle ($200-$500+)
3) Buy a Rem 700 Sendero and just call it good....
I like the Sendero (buddy has one) but it is just HEAVY and long.....

All 3 options would include a trigger adjustment (I like 2.5-3lb pulls), Talley Rings, and a Leupold VX-II 4-12x40mm Adj. Obj.

I am leaning toward option 1 as I could get the weight down with a LW stock...

Always just had out of the box factory rifles before so this is my 1st attempt at something "customized."

Any info would be appreciated!

Truing the action does a lot for consistancy from shot to shot by squareing all of the parts and
minimizing movement during the firing process and improves brass life.

Bead blasting is a type of finish (Mat) that is desirable for hunting and in theory helps cooling.

As to the choices you have listed I would recomend the Sendero but there is nothing like a
true Custom rifle if you can afford one. This would have to be your decision but all of your
choices are good ones.

I don't know what kind of MV you would loose if you cut the barrel down to 24" I've went the Sendero route intially. Changed barrel to shilen, new HS precision stock, jewell trigger, bedded, trued/blueprinted. The only original piece is teh action. Talk about the long way around. HAHAHA but it was fun and an experience. If I had to do it over again I'd try a used action, HS precision stock, Kreiger or Broughton barrel, jewell trigger

The easiest is to get the Sendero. Mine last three shots from my barrel break in were .6MOA so don't ask why I started changeing things. I blame this site whole heartedly:D

If you do get the Sendero I would get it bedded immediately. I was less than impressed with the fit of the action in the stock.
