ST_Gunner Welcome to Long Range Hunting... stay as long as you wish. I've been down Texas was a few times shooting hogs, over in Knox county...on the Patterson Ranch due East of Benjamin near the wayside/picnic area. Also spent a little time over close to King county line near Guthrie and the 6666 place(s). I'm pretty careful not to wander over onto the 6666 though...been told they don't care for trespassing folks very much (too many bones or something ). The hogs down there are pretty different by comparison to the "more" feral version of the eastern states and they're IMHO far more difficult to kill. Hell, you can kill a Georgia wild hog with a stale donut! Some of the folks posting here are tactical type shooters and others are more bench style...these are loose classifications and folks may cross into one another class regularly... I'm 99% tactical. I carry all my gear with me (on my person), I shoot for first round kills, I limit my shooting to about 1000 yards but there are other issues/limitations too (650 yards for big game). I can stalk hunt as well as most and have also placed well in competitions where stalking binocular clad people was concerned. I hunt and shoot the way I do to accomplish a task in what I feel is an efficient manner...if I can send a round across a field and kill the prey stone-cold dead then that's the manner I'll use at that moment. There are many variable (as you well know) and we can accept that some will/may occur at the most inopportune moment... Once we understand that quirk possibility we can elect to shoot to eliminate the possibility of a "quirk" upsetting the stalk or shoot or we can prolong the "hunt" to better the odds of a shooting "quirk" not taking place... Enough on that.... Welcome to our place in cyberspace. [ 08-24-2003: Message edited by: Dave King ]
