Chamber polishing

I need some advise. I had a case split on me the other day in my 300 win mag and it burnt a notch into the chamber. Now I have been told to just polish the chamber but I don't know how this may effect the overall dimensions. Will it effect my head spacing? Should I just have it rechambered. How much will have to be taken off of the barrel to rechamber it? The seperation took place about 0.4" from the base.

I had this happen this year also and just cleaned up the chamber with JB bore cleaner. I did not burn a notch though in the chamber, I thought it may have but it was just a roughed up area where the case had slipt which did clean up. Try something like JB or Flitz first to see what you really have.
