I bought these for my father as a present in the mid '90s, hoping he would use them instead of the $19.99 pair he had, but he never did. They sat in his closet till his recent passing.
The packing in the box must have been mashed against one of the rubber eyecups, and after time it degraded it and made it unusable. after several attempts I found a set that fit ok, and replaced them, but had to use some adhesive to hold them in place properly. If not for this happening, they are like new.
