i have a 28 Nosler on the way and am pondering bullets to use in it. My rifle has a 1:8 twist and is throated for the 195's. The last owner states it shoots very well with both the 195 EOL's and the 180 Eld-m.

In playing with Ballistic AE it appears that the 180 ELD-m beats the 195 EOL in velocity, energy, drop and drift.

It seems that most guys are using the 195's in the 28N and I am sure there is a reason for that hence this thread.

Help me out here guys, why the 195 EOL over the 180 Eld-m?

I also have a 28 Nosler with an 8 twist barrel. I tried both bullets and got better accuracy with the Berger 195 than the 180 ELDM. If the situation was reversed I would use the 180 ELDM without hesitation. I have also had great luck with the 183 Sierra Match King if you are just shooting targets or banging steel.

What muzzle velocity are they getting for each bullet? The 195 seems to do well around 3040-3050 from reading here. That is what I get with the 195 in a 26" barrel with good accuracy. 77.2gr of Retumbo loaded .020 off.

The 195 shoots lights out for me, so that is why I shoot it over the Hornady. My rifle is throated long for the 195, and I am getting 3110 with RL33 out of a 28" barrel. Hot load, but safe. Ballistics will put a 338 Lapua shooting 300s to shame.

I just got a 28 with 1-8.5 twist and had a hard on for 195 vld which are hard to find in Canada but I had a buddy that let me try some of his and they shot alright but nothing like the 180 vldh.
Didn't waste to much powder with the 195s but they were close to 3100fps and I'm doing the the 180vld at 3218 fps.
My hunting where I live would probably never be past 800 yards and I've never in 28 years of hunting even shot at game past 550yards except coyotes.
I do like to play at shooting steel though and the 195 at 3100 or the 180 vldh at 3218fps the difference is minimal out to 1500 yards which is as far as I've shot so far.
