I just picked up a Sendero in 300 WinMag. While I know this has been discussed at length, I'm looking for advice on what bullet to load.

The gun was primarily bought for an elk hunt in 2007. I can't imagine myself wanting to shoot an elk over 600 yards, and I will take shots as closer if they present themselves. Deer is an outside possibility but not as likely. I'd like to punch paper with it to 1000 yards. And I'd like to do this all with one load/bullet combo.

If I recall, the 180 gr Nosler Accubond is popular for these uses? I've formed the opinion that 180gr is a good weight for this round, but I'd solicit opinions on the 200gr bullets too.

Check into the Accubonds by Nosler, they come in 180s or 200s, plenty tough enough for up close shots and still open up out there a ways. Pretty darn accurate too.

+2 for the accubonds. with a 26" barrel, the WM can push the 200g fast enough to make it more usable then the 180g. Just try them both, but I'm pretty sure for the 1000 yard shot, the 200g with its higher BC will be the better bullet.

For your 1000 yard try these and see if you have enough twist.

Bullet Name Diameter inches Weight grains Sectional Density Ballistic Coefficients
.308 dia. 220 gr. HPBT MatchKing .308 220 .331 .629 @ 2100 fps and above
.624 between 2100 and 1700 fps
.608 @ 1700 fps and below

For elk I would try the Hornandy 190 SPB or Sierra 200 spb or the above mention nosler Accubond
