I wonder if they would work at all well for hunting with that small meplat

I would give them a whirl, I have hunted with both the 140 Hybrid .264 and 180 Hybrid .284 with great success.

Neither of those have the tiny meplat that these have though. Just curious in that would affect them from expanding

After Nammo took over, they designed a new line of hybrids made to be more consistent. The old ones still available, one needs to weigh the pro and cons.
Berger meplats had always resembled volcanoes that had blown. The new ones look like Lapua scenar tips.

Open them up with a #60 wire bit. The work phenomenally on game.
