I have one that was just brought in my shop, I havent really done anything with it except measure the chamber, and magazine, and put a Huskemaw 5x20 on it, He wants to shoot 197 gn BOTW VLD's out of it, Im gonna get to working with it in the next week, so if you like I will keep you posted, I must say though its kind of an ugly gun, but being a Benelli Im sure it probably shoots quite well. we'll see soon enough.

Hello all! I'm new here, and glad to contribute.

I posted this on 24hourcampfire earlier:

I have two, gen 1 wood version in '06, and gen 2 plastic version in 300 wsm. The '06 had to go back with issues, came back with new upgrades, now runs fine, accurate enough. The wsm is interesting, but what I want out of this caliber is long range accuracy, so this isn't the best platform for that.

All in all, decent, interesting guns, with good balance, soft shooting, acceptable triggers, and reliable, but somewhat complicated maintenance, change of zero after each cleaning. If you really want a semi auto without a pistol grip and covered in accessory rails, I think this is the one.

I'm late to the party but have to say - first I think the R1 is a thing of beauty - and I am pleased as punch to have found one under the Christmas tree: Comfort Tech 30-06. Have not shot it yet though, still trying to find a set of iron sights. Everyone thinks me stupid for even asking I guess, the only response I get is "why not put a scope on it?"

Anyway, Cabella's in Allen, TX got a R1 300WSM last night (1/7/13). It is not listed on the web yet so if interested, you may want to call soon. The price tag was under $900 but I don't recall the exact price. They also got a Belgium made Browning 22LR IN THE BROWNING LEATHER CASE WITH ALL ORIGINAL PAPERS!!!!! Needless to say, they no longer have the latter.

    Re: Benelli R1. magazine

I just got my R1 in 338 Win Mag and think I am going to like this rifle. Its true... it does not kick any more than a 270!!
My problem is I am going to Alaska on a moose and bear hunt and would like to have a spare magazine but they are not available now. Would a magazine for a 300 Win Mag work in a rifle chambered for 338 work?

Hi, I have been reading about this rifle which is apparently available all the way up to the 338 win mag.

There have been some discussions about how tight of groups it shoots and I wondered if anyone has been able to develop some improvements in this area ?

For example, it is common to take a rem 700, clean up the action, put on a new "pro quality" barrel, and make it a real shooter. I can see how this would be more complicated in a semi-auto like this, especially since it ports off gas pretty close to the cartridge, but maybe it is possible.

    Suggestions ?

    Thanks

Same parent cartridge so I can see no reason why they'd not work interchangeably but I'd definitely make sure before taking off on a hunt, especially in grizzly country where your life could easily depend in it functioning flawlessly.
